Yes. Some families begin tutoring or schedule a placement session without completing the questionnaire first.
Readiness is determined during screening or placement, so the instruction starts with the skills that will help the learner most.
Families participating in paired tutoring are required to own the Barton Reading & Spelling curriculum to support practice between sessions.
Placement identifies readiness and a starting level. Ongoing tutoring is the regular, structured instruction that follows.
Consistent, repeated practice is part of the instructional approach. Ongoing Barton students attend at least two sessions per week.
The tutor provides direct instruction while a parent observes and continues practice between sessions using the same methods.
Trial lessons are available for students transitioning from another Barton tutor. They are not offered to current students and are not credited toward ongoing tutoring.
